“We Wanted a Home That Truly Feels Like a Wooden House.”
At Dores, every home means more than just a new project - it is also an interesting encounter, and often even new friendships. We would like to share one such project with you - Irina's and Maxim's home.

When we met the family for a conversation over tea in their already completed home, we wanted to learn what it is like to live in a glulam log house and to talk in more detail about their experience during the construction process, as well as the other criteria that led them to choose this particular building method.
“One of the strongest memories I have from the time our house was being built is that the feeling of home appeared immediately,” says the homeowner, Irina. “Of course, we later gave the house its character through interior details, but thanks to the glulam logs, even during the active assembly phase, it never felt like we were on a construction site. The glulam log walls immediately give the house a finished look - from the very first moment, the space has a sense of completion, warmth, and coziness.”

The family also wanted to minimize the need for interior finishing as much as possible - something that glulam log construction makes wonderfully achievable. “We didn’t want endless filling and sanding, which is usually associated with interior finishing. We also didn’t want a long waiting period between the end of assembly and the moment when the rooms become livable. That waiting stage requires not only financial investment, but also a lot of mental energy - constantly thinking things through and solving problems.” We can agree that this is truly one of the greatest advantages of a glulam log house - the ability to step into finished spaces immediately after assembly, while still leaving freedom of choice in the homeowners’ hands and allowing the option to choose also materials that contrast with wood for wall and ceiling finishes.

Owners’ experience with the assembly process was particularly close and hands-on, as the family built a small temporary cabin on the construction site next to their future home, where they lived while the Dores house was being built. “It felt like the construction was happening so fast and so visibly - the house was growing day by day,” the homeowners shared when asked about their impressions of the assembly site. Assembly of a glulam log house is efficient and smooth, as the carefully numbered and precisely manufactured elements fit together like a large wooden construction set.

“Another important criterion in choosing this type of house was a safe and predictable construction process, especially considering that we don’t have a background in construction and lack that kind of experience. We knew the result wouldn’t bring unpleasant surprises and would be exactly as shown in the visuals. The house had been manufactured and assembled three months before we were ready to install it on our own land - we had the opportunity to see it and knew that it would look exactly the same here. The dimensions and measurements of the house are also precisely known before production begins, which meant we could confidently go ahead and order the windows, knowing the exact sizes of the window openings. There was no need to wait until the house was built to order the windows, worrying whether they would fit. With this type of house, the costs can also be fully anticipated and clearly understood in advance.”
At the end of the conversation, the family also emphasized another important aspect of their decision - the fact that one company is responsible for everything: design, production, and assembly, ensuring trust and reliability throughout the entire process.
